Ian Karusigarira (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies)

As part of the bigger Doctoral theme, I conducted field research on Memory of war as a piece of a complex mechanism explaining the regime consolidation in Uganda. It was necessary to observe the people and their relationship with representations of memory of the past wars/ regimes. I also sought to establish the convergences of the individual representations with the collective representations. I was also interested in the kind of history taught in schools especially primary, junior and high school. The intellectuals relationship with power discussions was of particular interest in this process.

Other than research, as part of the East African- Japanese Collaboration, I organized and conducted a lecture at Makerere University Kampala, especially targeting Social Science students. Click here ASC field report
